We’re pleased to announce that Disking IT has partnered with New Dawn Risk, a specialist Lloyd’s insurance broker established in 2008, to give our clients expert access to cyber insurance advice.
For businesses across Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex, this means your IT support partner can now connect you directly with brokers who understand both the insurance market and the technical detail insurers ask for, so your cover matches your actual risk, not a generic template.
We’ve rolled out full details of what’s covered on our new Cyber Insurance for UK Businesses page. This post covers why we made the move, and what it means if you’re already a Disking IT client.
Why We Partnered With New Dawn Risk
A strong security stack, firewalls, endpoint protection, monitoring, staff training, are built to stop an attack from succeeding. Cyber insurance is there for when one gets through anyway. The two work together: insurers increasingly expect baseline protections to be in place before they’ll pay a claim, which is exactly why cyber insurance works best alongside good IT support, not instead of it.
We chose New Dawn Risk because they specialise in complex and specialist risks, including cyber and technology cover for regulatory liability, business interruption, ransomware and extortion, data restoration, and technology errors and omissions. That specialism matters. Generic policies often leave gaps around the exact scenarios UK SMEs are most exposed to.
The numbers make the case for having cover in place at all. The average data breach now costs a UK organisation £3.29m, yet only 43% of UK businesses currently hold any form of cyber insurance. Meanwhile, 62% of small UK businesses are now insured, up from 49% last year, so the market is moving fast.
What This Means If You’re Already a Disking IT Client
If you’re on one of our managed cybersecurity plans, our team can now talk you through whether a standalone cyber insurance policy makes sense alongside your Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus certification, and connect you with New Dawn Risk for tailored advice.
If you’re not currently a client but want to understand your options, our cyber insurance page sets out what’s typically covered, what isn’t, and how a standalone policy compares to the cover bundled with Cyber Essentials certification.
Cyber Insurance Works Alongside Your Security, Not Instead Of It
It’s worth being clear about what this partnership isn’t. Cyber insurance won’t pay out for losses caused by acts of war or state-sponsored cyber warfare, breaches you already knew about before taking out the policy, or losses caused by failing to maintain the basic security controls stated in your policy.
That’s why we see this as an addition to a client’s security posture, not a replacement for it. Our role stays the same: reducing the chance of an attack succeeding in the first place. New Dawn Risk’s role is to make sure you’re properly covered for the cost and disruption if one does.
