No Signal, No Work: How O2 Satellite for Business Closes the Gap

O2 Satellite for Business

For nearly forty years, we’ve looked after almost every piece of technology our clients rely on: servers, laptops, networks, cyber security, broadband. However, mobile phones have been missing out!  So we’re delighted to announce that Disking IT now offers business telecoms as an O2 partner, and we’re launching with something that caught our attention the moment we heard about it: O2 Satellite for Business.

The dead spot problem

Picture this: A surveyor is halfway through a site visit on a rural estate and their phone reads “No Service”. They can’t message the office, share their location, or check the map to their next job. If you consider similar incidents could be happening across a whole field service team, on a farm, or in a construction firm, those dead spots add up to lost hours and, more importantly, real safety concerns for anyone working alone.

O2 Satellite for Business is designed precisely for this. When a compatible smartphone loses O2 mobile coverage, it connects automatically to Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellites. No new dish or handset is needed, and there’s nothing to switch on. Messaging, maps and location sharing simply carry on working through apps your team already uses, like WhatsApp, Google Maps and AllTrails.

The result is that O2’s UK landmass coverage extends from 89% to 95%. That remaining 5% is where a lot of Britain’s actual work happens.

What does it cost?

We like our pricing transparent, and so we’re keeping it simple:

  • The satellite add-on is included in our Unlimited O2 Business Plan
  • It’s just £2.50 per month per line on our Plus O2 Business Plan

Because it rolls monthly, you can cover the people who need it, such as your lone workers and field staff, and leave it off for the office-based team.

Is it right for your business?

It might be! O2 Satellite for Business keeps individual smartphones connected, but it isn’t broadband for your office, farm or site. If fixed connectivity is what you need, we’ll tell you that and help you find the right solution instead.

It tends to be a strong fit for organisations with people working beyond the reach of a normal mobile signal: farms, estates and rural businesses (one in five registered businesses in England is rural, according to government figures cited by O2), construction and field service teams, utilities and environmental crews, and charities or public sector teams with outreach staff and volunteers.

Why buy your mobiles from your IT provider?

You could go direct to a network, of course. But splitting your telecoms from your IT is exactly how businesses end up with three suppliers, three support numbers, and nobody willing to take ownership when something crosses the boundaries.

We look at the whole picture and we’ll tell you honestly whether satellite coverage is worth it for your team. We’ll set up the phones properly, and look after them afterwards, alongside the rest of your estate. And because mobile phones carry company email and data, we treat them as part of your cyber security. That’s a perspective you won’t get from a SIM-only reseller.

Straight answers, as always

If you’re not sure whether satellite coverage makes sense for your team, tell us where your people work and which phones they use. If it’s a good fit, we’ll recommend the right plan and set everything up. If it isn’t, we’ll say so.
